The Archive Entry No. 003 - The First Pieces.

It’s starting to feel real.

Until now, Echo & Sin has existed largely in notebooks, sketches, conversations and ideas. We’ve named the Chapters. We’ve imagined how they should smell. We’ve designed labels, obsessed over details, sourced materials and started turning an ordinary garage into The Archive.
But there’s a strange difference between planning something and finally being able to hold a piece of it in your hands.

This week, the first packages are beginning to arrive.
Tester bottles. Labels. Packaging.
Individually, they’re small things. Empty glass bottles and pieces of printed paper shouldn’t feel particularly significant.

But they do.

Because soon, those empty bottles will contain the very first physical versions of five fragrances that currently exist only in our heads.
SOUNDCHECK.
BACKSTAGE.
STATIC.
ENCORE.
FADE OUT.
Five Chapters.
VOLUME I.

And we’ve decided to do something that makes the challenge considerably more interesting: we're developing all five simultaneously.
Rather than perfecting one fragrance and moving onto the next, the entire collection will evolve together. We want each Chapter to have its own identity while still feeling unmistakably part of the same record. One may influence another. An idea discovered while working on Static might find its way into Fade Out. Something intended for Soundcheck might unexpectedly become part of Backstage. We don't know yet.
And that's exactly the point.
The bottles won't stay empty for long.
When the raw materials begin arriving, we'll start our first formulation sessions.
There will be batches that smell incredible.
There will probably be batches that smell absolutely awful.
We're keeping both.
Every development formula will receive its own batch number. Every adjustment will be recorded. Every tester becomes another entry in the history of the fragrance.

BS-001.
ST-001.
EN-001.
FO-001.
And then we smell.
We wait.
We wear them.
We change them.
And we do it again.
Somewhere amongst those numbered bottles will eventually be the five fragrances that become Echo & Sin Volume I.
We just don't know which numbers they'll have yet.
You're here before the perfume.
That's what makes this part of The Archive important to us.
There isn't a finished fragrance we're pretending has just appeared from nowhere.
You're seeing the process before we know the ending ourselves.
The empty bottles.
The first ingredients.
The experiments.
The mistakes.
The versions that almost work.
And eventually, hopefully, the moment when Danielle and I smell something across that workbench and realise:
That's it.
Until then, we keep making.
The first pieces have arrived.
